Unveiling of the Harlem Quilt ... Yesterday

Community Works at the Dwyer Cultural Center
&  The City College of New York

Unveiling of the Harlem Quilt

created by the students of
"Quilt Making in American History"
at The City College of New York

Dr. Myrah Brown Green, Executive Director of Arts & Culture at City College, teaches the class and they created this for CCNY's Great Hall.  These students are first time quilters and created this by hand.  They were paired off and had to create a panel with certain elements.  The chose images from the Harlem Is... exhibit and had it screen printed by Harlem Textiles, as well as the Dwyer fabric.  They have also created patchwork quilts for the premies in Harlem Hospital.  These pics were taken with my phone.

When it is all said and done, Back to the Real World...

The inspiration was all around me...the wind...water, sun...earth..sand....so I am so excited to return to see more of the lovely Bee Blocks that the NYC MetroMod Bee'ers created for me.

My challenge to them was to create their interpretation of Natures elements Earth, Wind/Sky, Fire, Water…

And they are all turning out wonderfully....

My Mum and to all of the Mothers....

There are so many women in this world that have brought life into this world...willingly, unwittingly, unwantingly, unwisely, unworthy, wonderfully, whimsically, worshipfully, wantonly, and with all the wisdom they possessed...(and many other w words that you can think of...)  Just as there are so many that did not physically bring them into this world....but are still Mother's...There are those women that have adopted and adorned, taken in, fed, nurtured, nourished, breathed spirit into others, and are Mother's...so there are many types of mothers in this world...oh yeah, let me not forget the other gender...that are the Mr. Mother's, that love, raise, care and are the only mother that many people now, although he is known as Dad.

And let me not forget the mother's mother.. our Grandmother's....I love you too Grandma...

To all of you, in all the many categories....and the many more that may exist...May you be blessed today and always...

Happy Mother's Day to You All in Blog land...

Life Under Quilts .... a Travel Inspiration

Looking forward to some time away.....As I was perusing my favorite blogs...I was reminded of "Life Under Quilts" travel quilt, the EPP 60 degree Diamond.  She posted some pics from her ongoing project and I thought...hmmmm, wouldn't that be a wonderful thing to have with me.  I have smaller EPP hexagon project with some swap table fabric...but that was not cheerful enough.  So, what do I do...well of course I visited my favorite City (now expanded Art) quilt shop.  This is is the color scheme that I came up with..

The White with multi colored dots will be the center of the diamond stars with the colored dots flanking it... I have a few packs of precut paper pieces and I also purchased my quilt patis...and will try that as well. Yippee....
